Ep 15: Thriving Eco Nomads
My first Portuguese guest is on a mission to help his fellow digital nomads lower their footprint and increase their impact as they travel the world for work. He and his partner, Sara, founded the No Footprint Nomads website where they promote a low-impact nomadic lifestyle. He also co-founded the Thriving Nomads which intends to be a community of nomad change-maker entrepreneurs.
Welcome, João Mendes.
In this episode, we’ll talk about the joys of traveling and some things you can do to make a positive difference in the communities you visit. João is multi-passionate and works on many projects, all with an emphasis on making the world a better place. Or moving to Mars, if that doesn’t work out.
Listen now
On April 16 and 17, he’s co-hosting the Thriving Nomads Summit. And I’m holding a workshop at the summit about Creating a Conscious Marketing Plan.

Tips
refuse things like plastic bottles, but in a respectful way
bring a reusable water bottle
get involved in local projects
recycling is the last step - reuse is much better
try to bring a cotton bag for popcorn at the movies
book an eco place to stay, or stay longer
try not to buy new stuff in a new location - get used stuff from other nomads
check out eco stays on Airbnb or the new Fairbnb
Is João optimistic?
Yes! But he also has plans to go to Mars if things don’t work out here.
